Thomas (b. 1965) spent three years training to be an accountant, as well as completing his education in theatre and anthroposophy.
He is co-founder of the German movement Mehr Demokratie, which was established in 1988. Since that time he has campaigned energetically for direct democracy, participating in the organisation of several successful citizens' submissions and referenda initiated from below, including the introduction of direct democracy on the local level in Bavaria (1995), and the improvement of direct democracy legislation in Hamburg (1998) and Thuringen (2000). He has published several books on direct democracy.
He is CEO of a charitable private limited company called Omnibus für Direkte Demokratie (Omnibus for Direct Democracy). This company runs a bus promoting the idea of citizen-initiated referenda. Furthermore he is engaged in an improvement of the monetary systems with the introduction of local currencies.
