Maria Mies comes from a small farm in the Eifel. She is a profesor emeritus of sociology at Cologne. She has worked for five years in India were she wrote her PhD dealing with the topic of women rights in India.
She is working in the international movement for women right, the ecology movement and the third world movement. She is co-founder of a couple of organisations and initiatives.
Her scientific work was dedicated to find new solutions for the current problems of the agricultural business. She is also pioneer in the academic subject of research into women's issues.
In the last year she has become a prominent figure in the international globalisation movement.
