Comment by ‘Otra Democracia Es Posible‘

Until now, the campaign is taking place in a significant unfairness atmosphere. A great number of public administrations carry out electoral propaganda for the yes-side. Media and other real powers are clearly helping the "ruling" position. Even the Government - public administration who is calling for referendum - is carryies out an institutional campaign with an explicitly biased or even clear position for the yes-vote.

The propaganda level is so high, that several Spanish democratic organiations state their concerns on the freedom and fairness of this consultative referendum. In the present conditions the political legitimacy of the consultation does not exist; that is the reason why the Spanish democratic community has to make an effort to report and monitoring the process until the popular consultation is achieved to become free and fair.

Nothing is more harmful for the ideals of direct democray than the defective application of the political freedoms. In the first referendum since almost 20 years, the Spanish democratic community has to make sure, the the decision made by the people in a referendum is not devalued.
